Homeschool Statement

Updated June 12, 2025

Definitions:
Purpose-Drive Parent: a parent guided by values, vision, and intentional action.
~ Abdicate: to release responsibility without oversight.
~ Delegate: to give responsibility with oversight.

Background — On July 4, 2023, Governor Mike DeWine signed Ohio House Bill 33 into law. This law gave "Home Education" a new definition. Home Education means the education of a child, between the ages of six and eighteen years of age, that is "directed by the child's parent(emphasis intended)" for the child not enrolled in a public or chartered nonpublic school.

Why was this law important for purpose-driven parents?

— 1.) HB 33 reinforced that parents are the primary educators.

— 2.) Simplified Notification Process: Parents must notify the district of their homeschooling intent. Parents no longer need to submit an academic assessment or curriculum plan or get district approval.

— 3.) The Superintendent now only acknowledges the notification. —There is no longer an approval process.
